What blue light does to your body
From the surface of your eye to the clock in your brain, step by step.

Blue light reaches the back of the eye, where your body clock is read
Special cells measure how bright the day is, and they respond most to blue light. Screens and LEDs are rich in it.
The signal goes straight to your brain's clock
At 11 pm, bright blue-rich light reads as daytime and melatonin is held back. Your body does exactly what light tells it.
So you fall asleep later, and the morning pays for it
In a PNAS study, people who read on a light-emitting screen before bed took longer to fall asleep and were less alert the next morning.
